I want to be clear that even though I've tried many different alternative therapies and didn't find them to work for me, I did hop around, starting and stopping them and I may have not given them enough time. I don't want to discourage anyone from trying something out because what didn't work for me may work for you.

A key example was when I was taking Chinese herbs for a couple of weeks. Part of regimen was to drink a tea made from a powder, that tasted terrible like ash and drink a tea made from herbal leaves, that tasted equally terrible. I was instructed by a Chinese healer in Florida who spoke Vietnamese. Since I couldn't fully understand him, I had my mom on the call to help us communicate.

I told the healer about the little tumors in my left armpit which started to hurt. He said to use the band-aid that he included in the package of medicine he initially mailed to me. The band-aid had medicinal paste on it. He instructed me to put it on over the tumors and leave it on for days, until it fell off from taking showers.

There was a cultural difference in communication and the answers weren't elaborate as I wanted them to be, they were short and to the point. I didn't get comforted, encouraged and I didn't feel understood. I couldn't ask the questions myself and get a clear answer every time (sometimes Mom forgot to ask questions I had). Because of all of these things, I was nervous about how effective the regimen was.

When I didn't see results as quickly as I wanted, needed and hoped for, I made an appointment with the Oasis of Hope hospital in Tijuana, Mexico. Over the next few days or a week (I don't remember exactly since this happened years ago), I focused on making arrangements and planning for my 4-week stay, which was 3 weeks on, 2 weeks back at home and return for the last 1 week.

Once I arrived at the hospital, one of the doctors would pay me a first time visit. I figured that he would want a thorough look, so I removed the herbal band-aid. It was then that I discovered that the armpit tumors had shrunken down by 75%; it had only been four days! Had I known the Chinese herbs were that effective, I would have stuck with it for longer. By the time I realized it was working, I had already left to the Oasis of Hope in Mexico.
